Print Competition - Commended Image

In the latest print competition I entered at Irvine CC I had an image commended which was great as it is one of my favourite images.  It was commented that for lots of reasons it shouldn’t work and that I had ‘broken’ many of the compositional rules of photography, but how else are you meant to get creative?

Shot from above on a cliff edge, I spotted this giant rock on a beach in Cornwall and when I photographed it it just looked like a small rock, the trick was to wait until the walkers happened to walk past it to give it scale.  I also love the patterns that the tide had created in the sand.

My favourite images always tend to be those that need a second look or make you ask ‘what is it?’.
