About Me

This is me!

Well many years ago it was, but I am still doing now what I was doing then - being creative, making artwork for people and generally getting into an artful mess.

Hi,  my name is Andrew and I run a specialist equine and dog location photography business based in Galston, East Ayrshire, Scotland.

Nowadays, instead of paint I choose to spend my time with a camera capturing images of dogs and horses.  There is nothing else I would rather be doing and having replaced paint with a camera I generally stay much cleaner.

"If I’ve scruffled and made a fuss of some dogs and horses in the morning, I’m set up for the day."

"Dogs and horses are amazing, they’re magical and have a beautiful inner soul.

I am often asked what has been my favourite dog or horse to have worked with and I can honestly say that the last dog or horse I photographed was the best dog or horse.

They are fascinating to me, I like to know what they are, I want to see their ears wiggle, I like the way they all have a different walk and aura.

There’s no better thing in this world to have as a best friend.

If you have a dog or horse or maybe a few in your life then you are a special person to me." RG

Why should you choose me ?

I am passionate about the power of Pet Photography to improve peoples lives and want to share this with you.

Every now and again it is important to treat yourself to something special, I know I do.  Especially now, people are looking for more than just spending their money on 'things', they are looking for experiences, special products, something that once the money has been spent will stay with them for a lifetime.

I offer an amazing experience in the countryside, having some special one to one time with your best friend, having a really fun time, getting home feeling like you have done something different and worthwhile.  Then a couple of weeks later you get to live through it all again with the viewing of images from your special day.

I know from my own experience that seeing images of your pets on your wall will make you smile very day and help you to remember every single day you spend with them and inevitably at some point that becomes a really special and important thing to do.

This is what I spend my life doing.

I would love for you to choose me to be your dog or horse's Portrait Photographer as I want to take the best photograph you have ever seen of your dog or horse.

If you would like to have a chat about what you need and what I can do for you, then please drop me a quick 'Hello' HERE.

This is me trying to explain what and why I do what I do.  I much prefer being behind the camera!

Some Things About Me

I live with my partner and we have many pets, all rescued:  dogs, guinea pigs, a rabbit, fish (don't ask about the pond).

I lived in Greece for 1 1/2 years teaching.

I wanted to be an Astronaut.

I watch a lot of films.

I love cheese, black coffee, red bush tea, salt and vinegar pringles, rich dark chocolate, Guiness and Jack Daniels.

I love History, especially Ancient History.

I love many different types of music, but its Metal 🤘 and Heavy Rock 🤘that runs through my veins.

I still have the toys I played with as a kid (well they are collectible Star Wars figures after all).

I would like to see Mount Everest  with my own eyes.

Before I was a photographer I worked in professional theatre as a lighting/stage/sound technician/roadie for 15 years and as a professional musician and teacher for 20 years.

I can play to varying degrees: guitar (acoustic and electric), banjo (5 and 4 string), bass guitar, irish bouzouki, piano, ukulele.

I'm vegetarian.

First Single - Run To The Hills - Iron Maiden

First Album - Prince Charming - Adam And The Ants

My first experience of dogs was being chased up a tree when I was young by a ferocious (well he probably just wanted to play) little terrier who then sat at the bottom of the tree waiting for me to climb down, which I didn't.

My Childhood Influences (How Many Do You Remember?)

The Magic Roundabout, Bagpuss, Camberwick Green, Trumpton, Mr Ben, Rainbow, Wombles, Rentaghost, Ivor The Engine, The Flumps, Rubarb and Custard, Take Hart, The Adventure Game, The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy, Captain Caveman, Record Breakers, Basil Brush, Swap Shop, Crack-a-Jack, Grange Hill, Danger Mouse, Hong Kong Phooey, Happy Days, Flintstones, The Muppet Show, Terrahawks, Stingray, Batman, Dr Who, The Six Million Dollar Man, The A Team, Buck Rogers, Knightrider, Airwolf, Robin Of Sherwood, Joe 90, Thunderbirds, Fraggle Rock, Cheers, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Blakes 7, Space 1999, Star Wars.

My Challenge To You

When was the last time you had your dog professionally photographed?
When was the last time you were professionally photographed with your dog?
Is your dog/horse nervous, excitable, wary of others, prone to behavioural issues?
Is your dog/horse a rescue with a story to tell?
Does your dog need to remain on the lead at all times?

I know what you are going to say, "They'll never sit still" to "They are wary of strangers", "I need to keep him on the lead", "He doesn't like being around other dogs", "You'll never get get a good photo of him", "They are a black dog, its impossible to get a good photo, I've tried."

It is possible to capturing amazing moments in time for owners with a little patience and some creativity.  For some dogs or horses it requires some planning, a considered location, a particular time of the day, some post-production magic but IT IS POSSIBLE for EVERY dog or horse, including yours.

So If you feel that it would be impossible to have some incredible images created of your dog or horse but it is something that you would love to have then please get in touch.  I especially love a challenge, just ask me about the Alsation guard dogs I once got asked to work with!

I believe that every dog and horse deserves a good portrait at least once in their life, whatever their personality or life difficulties and for it to be hung on the walls of your home to be celebrated every day.

Of course, if after the shoot you do not like any of the images you do not have to purchase, so what is holding you back?

Do you accept the challenge?
