In The Paper. 8th March 2023

Something different this time.  It’s an interesting exercise when you are asked to dit someone else’s image.  Normally when I photograph a subject I have an idea of what the final image will look like, either through experience or knowing what is possible during the editing process.

This was an exercise in editing someone else’s image so half of the creative process is removed.  It’s similar in music to providing a cover version of someone else’s song, you see it differently to the person who took it and it can lead to interesting results.

In my case I was given a shot of the Castle Crag valley in the Lake District which i have photograhed many times myself, but always with Castle Crag as the focus.  This time the focus was definitely on the small island.  I felt it lacked some drama and so I created some with a different edit taking out a lot of distractions and adding some colour to the sky with a reflection in the water.

In this case I created something totally different to my normal style of image which I guess is the point.
