Getting Creative

Well hasn’t it been nice lately? Lots of nice relatively dry weather and sunshine to enjoy. Lets hope it holds for the next two weeks as I am leading a couple of photowalks around Culzean Castle, exploring the lesser known parts just off of the tourist trail. I could spend days there and never run out of things to photograph.
What I really like is the range of photography you can work on there. Landscape, nature, wildlife, birds, people, trees, fungi to name few.

So when setting out decisions have to be made about gear and the purpose of your visit. I always travel light and find the restrictions I place upon myself to be the way I get creative with my work. Only having a long lens forces you to look to objects far away while with a macro lens you needn’t go very far at all.  Tripods are always something to consider.  Yes for some styles of images you need one, for example long exposure shots and again forcing yourself to use one can be a creative tool.  When out walking I prefer not to carry one as I can react quicker to things I see, whether it’s wildlife or working around people.

So next time you head out, have think about the restrictions you are placing upon yourself and see them as a positive, a way of trying new things.  It’s how I keep myself learning and being creative.
