Whitelee Wind Farm

We are lucky to have so many varied and interesting places to walk within 30 mins of where we live.  Having just moved to the area getting out and exploring in all weather has been great fun and Whitelee Windfarm has been on our list for a while.  If you have not been there, its 81 miles of walkways on beautiful moorland surrounded by 215 wind turbines.  It’s also the UK’s largest onshore wind farm.

I’ve never seen anything like it, although the barren scenery reminded me of trips to Bodmin moor on the way to Cornwall.  The turbines are huge and you can walk right up under the blades which is mildly terrifying.  We didn’t get far so cannot wait to go back and explore this area more.  Here are some stormy images from the visit.
