1st Camera Club Competition - Open Digital

Last night saw the first Camera Club Competition of the year results announced.

This was posted on our members site:

“With another great turnout at Irvine Sports Club, last night saw us welcome along Stuart Strachan to judge (or assess) our images from our C1 PDI Open Competition.  Stuart, a member of Kilmaurs Photographic Club and holder of a BPE4 Crown, is a well accomplished photographer with years of experience, whose manner is friendly, encouraging and knowledgeable.

With a vast array of 80 images to view, Stuart offered his advice and feedback in his usual positive and complimentary style.

Coming top on the night was Tracy Ross with her emotive monochrome image of a lone tree entitled ‘Survivor’, which was closely followed by the evocative ‘Dinorwic Quarry’ by David Bell and captivating ‘The Pigeon’s Friend’ by Colin Houston. Mention also goes to Janet Paterson for her lovely image ‘The Harvest’, Andrew Winter for the stunning ‘Round and Round’ and Fiona Wallace for her beautiful ‘The Flycatcher Catches the Fly’.

The results are awarded points and members are placed in a league that runs all year across all of the Club competitions with winners announced at the end of the year.

The three images I entered are below and were taken over the last few years (I am preparing new work for upcoming rounds).  They were called “A Walk On The Beach”, “Innocence and Purity” and “Round and Round”. All photo’s were commented on and some valid points made especially regarding “A Walk On The Beach” which was interesting.  In the end “Innocence and Purity” ( NOT a studio shot but taken out in the garden) won a Commended award and “Round and Round” (the Red Arrows) won a joint 3rd place putting me a joint fourth overall in the league table.  I’m learning that Camera Club competitions are quite a serious affair, the importance of naming images correctly, taking constructive criticism, especially when they are right - see an upcoming post about this).
