Cancer Awareness

September is here and so starts my favourite time of the year - Autumn.   With regard to pet photography there is no better time of the year to get outside taking photos.  On a sunny day the light is good all day, so I’m not restricted early mornings or late evenings to get the best light and the colours are spectacular.

I don’t know anyone who has not been affected in some way by cancer and so I have donated vouchers to Nationwide Building Society, Cranleigh and Birtley House Retirement Home in Bramley for their Macmillan Coffee Morning for Cancer awareness.  Vouchers are going in to their hamper and tombola respectively and I look forward to meeting the lucky winners.

I offer my vouchers for FREE to local business’s and Charities looking to raise funds for worthy causes throughout the year so if you would like to apply for one then please get in touch.

Cancer does not just affect us humans, it also occurs in animals, and with dogs especially it is particularly hard to deal with as they become a part of the family as close as any child or partner in some cases.

In my work I have been asked to photograph dogs with medical issues, often cancer and it is heartbreaking to learn the news that they finally had to give up the fight.

This month I learnt that Maggie a cocker spaniel I photographed earlier this year finally had to put to sleep as her tumour that she had been fighting with rounds of chemotherapy had finally gotten the better of her.  Especially difficult as her health issues have been ongoing and as she lived in the New Forest it has been difficult to arrange a viewing as she couldn’t be left.  I now have these wonderful photos of her that I hope in time her family will be able to view and remember her for the special dog that she was.

Who said photographing pets was easy?  Its an emotional rollercoaster, from the fun we have on the shoot, to the viewing of images (bring out the tissues) to the contact I try to keep with all the dogs I have spent time with.

I love my job and the memories I can create for people, but months like this can be difficult and I know she is not the only one out there who is fighting hard.

If you don’t have any beautiful images of your pets then please get in touch, tomorrow could be too late.

Thinking of you all.
