STEP 1:  SCHEDULING YOUR SESSION

In order to reserve a date, you will need to sign some paperwork and pay a session fee.  The session fee covers all of the preparation I’m going to walk you through to get ready for your session, the time spent at the session itself and all of the selection and editing of your final images after the session.

If we haven't already, the easiest way to compare calendars is for you to email or call me with a few dates that work for you.  I always try to be as flexible as possible, and once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes.

As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:

1.  Weekend dates are popular and availability is often limited.  Many clients who work regular business hours often make a day of it, dogs especially will be nice and quiet afterwards, normally requiring a nice long nap!  Depending on the time of year, early mornings or evening shoots can be arranged and are often better, so will fit in around your work commitments.

2.  Given the beautiful colours, temperate weathering amazing soft light, spring and autumn are the busiest times of year for outdoor photos in Scotland . If you'd like a session during one of those times (ESPECIALLY if you want a weekend spot), please get in touch as soon as possible!

3.  If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthday, Christmas, etc.), be sure to book a date at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.

4.  The best time to capture amazing images is the 1.5 hors after sunrise and late afternoon/early evening, especially the 1.5 hours before sunset so I would strongly encourage you to arrange a shoot at these times and avoid the middle of the day.  This will weather dependent of course.  If it is cloudy or stormy then the middle of the day may well be perfect.  This is something we will discuss when booking a day, time and location.

5.  Beautiful photographs can be made in any kind of weather, but I understand that there are some downsides to being photographed in the pouring rain or the freezing cold. I can and do reschedule sessions for definite inclement weather, but I am also happy to turn up if the weather is changeable and see how it goes.  If it does not work out then we can reschedule but sometimes these shoots result in dramatic images.

STEP 2:  THE SESSION ITSELF

Once we've decided on a time and date and officially put your session on the books, I'll send you a guide to getting ready that will walk you through everything that you need to know regarding the shoot.  The guide has been created and refined over years of experience, so it typically answers 90% of the questions that come up, but I'm always happy to set up a time to chat if you want additional help.

A few days before our session is scheduled, I'll reach out to confirm our time and location... at that point, if the forecast is questionable or for some other reason we need to postpone, then we can talk about our rescheduling options.  Otherwise, that's the perfect time to ask any last-minute questions or let me know if you've come up with a fun idea we haven't discussed.

The day of the session, please block off 2-2.5 hours. Typically we're done within 90 minutes or so, but I don't charge by the hour, so if there's some kind of issue that arises or we have to wait just a bit longer for something to be just perfect, then I like to be able to stay flexible.

If there's more than one of you coming along and one of you has to leave early then just let me know ahead of time so that I can focus on getting that person in the frame more while they're still available.

Finally, take a breath and relax... I promise to give the grown-up's breaks throughout the session as needed, and to make it as painless as possible for everyone involved.  If there is anything else I can do to make things go smoothly then please let me know.

STEP 3:  THE FUN PART

Within just a couple of weeks of your session, you'll receive an email from me letting you know that your photos are ready.  Once you've had a chance to see them and marvel for a bit, you'll let me know which collection you want to purchase.  After that, you'll have a full month to select the specific digital files and print items you want to use to fill that collection... zero pressure!

BEFORE YOU BOOK PLEASE ALSO KNOW THAT...

The animal's welfare and your safety are my primary concern at all times.

I arrange location shoots that are safe and suitable for the animals and clients involved and a detailed questionnaire is part of the booking process so that we can all relax and have a fun experience.

I have years of experience photographing rescued animals and dogs and horses with behaviourial issues and welcome those animals for who a traditional photoshoot may not be suitable.  It sometimes takes a little bit more planning, but photographing animals with issues is one of the great joys of this job so before you think it's just too difficult, give me a call to discuss what's possible.

Animal Welfare Statement

The animal's welfare is my first priority and is something that I feel very strongly about. Therefore I will not take photographs of animal's in a situation that I feel uncomfortable with or that could be interpreted as cruel, harmful or non-respectful of their wellbeing.

It therefore goes without saying that I will not take photographs of animals under the following conditions:  in costumes, in cages, behind bars, behind chainlink fencing, behind any other type of fencing or barrier, in prong collars, electric collars, or any other type of collar that I deem to be harmful to the animals comfort.

I reserve the right to refuse to take photographs and terminate a photoshoot if I am uncomfortable with any situation regarding the animal that I am not happy with.
